Welcome to 5th Skipton Scouts

Welcome to 5th Skipton. This site aims to provide you with the basic information you need about Scouting and the group.

Scouting

The Scout Movement is a global co-educational youth organisation, the largest in the world, with over 30 million Members in 216 countries and territories.

In the UK scouting is organised by The Scouts Association which has a clear purpose:

Our purpose is to actively engage and support young people in their personal development, empowering them to make a positive contribution to society.

Scouting is open to all young people aged 6 to 25 of every faith and background if they are prepared to make the promise. Several variations of the promise are available to cover a range of faiths and nationalities, and those who don’t follow a failt. Please advise a leader which promise your child would like to take.

There are also plenty of opportunities for adults to become involved as Leaders, Assistants, and Administrators and as Group Supporters. If you would like to be involved with our Scout Group, then please contact one of the Group’s Leaders.

As a member of our Group, we hope and will endeavour to ensure that your child can help to make the world a better place. Scouting makes a positive contribution to society by helping young people to develop as active members of the community who follow The Scout Association Values of:

The development of young people takes place when the young people, in partnership with adults, work together based on the values of Scouting and:

The Group

Our group currently consists of three sections:

With all sections there is some flexibility within the age ranges. More details about each section can be found from the links in above.

The group feeds into the District (South Craven) Explorers group for 14- to 18-year-olds.

The Group can always benefit from assistance either as a Leader, helper or a member of the group’s trustees, or even as occasional specialist skills instructor, passing on skills or hobbies. Please contact us to discuss how you can help.

As a member of The Scouts Association, 5th Skipton is governed by The Scouts Association Policy, Organisation, and Rules (POR). This is our manual to ensure the safety and wellbeing of every member of our group. More information on this can be found here.

Online Scout Manager (OSM)

Online Scout Manager (OSM) is the service used by 5th Skipton to allow us to manage the records of Beavers, Cubs and Scouts in our group. OSM provides a way for you to provide us with emergency contact information and inform us of any needs that your child has, for example allergies, medical needs and the consent forms for activities and photos. You will be able to see the programme and any badges awarded. OSM moves with your child through their scouting journey.

It is imperative that the information in OSM is completed before your child is invested, and that the information kept up to date.

When your child decides to join 5th Skipton you will be sent an invite via email to sign up to OSM. If you do not receive this, please let someone know as soon as possible.
